Definition
The Vipareeta Raja yoga (VRY) occurs due to the dusthana lords occupying other dusthanas.
Explanation
The above definition is incomplete and has caused much confusion to people. The dusthanas are the 6th, 8th and the 12th bhavas. The 3rd house is also included (by some) as this is the 8th from the 8th based on the concept of bhavat bhavam. We will exclude the 3rd bhava for now in this newsletter.
VRY is said to occur when any dusthana lord is placed in another dusthana. Below are the possible combinations.
- The 6th lord in the 8th or in the 12th bhava
- The 8th lord in the 6th or the 12th bhava
- The 12th lord in the 6th or the 8th bhava
When the 6th lord is involved in VRY, the yoga is called Harsha Yoga. When the 8th lord is involved in VRY, the yoga is called Sarala Yoga. When the 12th lord is involved in VRY, the yoga is called Vimala Yoga. Harsha means happy, Sarala means easy/simple/straight, and Vimala means Satwa or pure.
Concepts
The 6th lord carries the negative traits relating to sufferings we face due to our own mistakes or making bad judgements. The 6th lord also denotes the strength of the enemy we may encounter in this transactional world.
The 8th lord carries the defects that are internal to us meaning no external factor caused the misfortune or disease. This is also related to longevity and inheritance.
The 12th lord indicates that which is given away something we value (voluntarily or under duress), hospitalization and separation.
A few questions need to be answered that are very fundamental to Jyotish vidya. For example, should the dusthana lords be strong or weak (when placed in other dusthanas) for VRY to manifest? Let us take an example of the 6th lord. Since the 6th lord denotes the strength of the enemy, its exaltation or in strength can only mean that one will encounter a very powerful enemy. If the 6th lord is debilitated, combust or otherwise weak, the powers of the enemy is less.
However, the one condition that MUST also be seen is the strength of the Lagna lord. Lagna lord is YOUR powers of judgement, discrimination, and jurisprudence. Without Lagna lord being stronger, how can one win against the enemy and enjoy Vipareeta Raja yoga.
Correct definition
The Vipareeta Raja yoga (VRY) occurs due to the dusthana lords occupying other dusthanas are weak, combust, debilitated, in satru Rasi WHILE Lagna lord is strong.
Some consider dusthana lords to be placed in own dusthanas for VRY to manifest. For example, 6th lord in the 6th bhava – This would make the 6th lord powerful which contradicts the very definition given above. This is a theory; I have not found accurate.
Is VRY is super yoga to have? This is a question most have not gone into deeply. The presence of VRY seems to something great to have, but does this also have a dark side to it?
Every Graha has a lordship face to it and also a Naisargika face as well. Yes, I am referring to the Naisargika karakatwa of a Graha. Here comes the dark side of this yoga. When a weak dusthana lord placed in another dusthana can bring you great achievements by defeating others, its Naisargika karakatatwa is ruined. This concept has also been corroborated by my dear friend and renowned Jyotish author Sri. Sarajit Poddar.
For Example – Meena Lagna, lord of the 8th is Venus placed in the 6th house with additional afflictions and Lagna lord Jupiter is strongly placed. Indeed, VRY is present in this case. But the Naisargika karakatatwa of Venus is Wife gets damaged. So, when the person gets VRY triggered, there can be misunderstanding or separation from the spouse bringing in troubles in marriage.
Consider what happens when the Lagna lord is weak? The person gets defeated at the hands of the enemy and will undergo humiliation. Hence the crucial factor hinges upon the strength of the Lagna lord.
Statistically, VRY is a common occurrence in charts. Not everyone goes on to win great battles or sees sudden rise in fortunes. Why? The Lagna lord factor.
Conclusion – VRY operating means Quid Pro Quo. While one may gain, other aspects of life get damaged. There is indeed a price to pay.
Here is a question you are encouraged to contemplate on.
- What happens when 2 or more dusthana lords conjoin or aspect? Is there a greater price to pay?
